hey y'all -

as you know, the Annual PNWHS Fundraiser Potluck/Auction is happening on the 15th!!!

no animals at the meeting - bring some cash and some donations.

as usual, there are several interesting things to consider:
1. it's a great place to pick up holiday gifts
2. everything supports PNWHS!
3. no animals at the meeting - but please bring some sort of food item

if you have a donatable item (think along the lines of upscale-yardsale; gifts, crafts, knick-knacks, art pieces, etc etc) please get it to us ahead of time if at all possible. I can coordinate pickup/dropoff in the S Central area; Jenn up north; Adams (pretty please?) on the far south end.

also think in terms of donatable services! I've auctioned off 1/2 day of hard unskilled labor the past couple of years and it's been a good item. Dave's Tarot readings have also been a big hit.

can you do nails? wash cars? are you a mechanic? are you a tax accountant or a photographer? if you're willing to donate a little time in the terms of professional -or mostly-professional - service, please do so! think in terms of family and friends, as well.

FOR ALL DONATIONS, no matter how small, you will be issued a receipt for the dollar amount of your donation and you can deduct it on your federal income taxes.

send me a pm or give me a call (my # is in every newsletter) if you have something to donate.

this is always a fun meeting, and Scott has agreed to crawl out of his hole and be the auctioneer again!

for smaller items, we'll be holding a blind auction, coordinated by our very own almost-favoritest board member, Brenda!

What date is the auction? I may have some donations, and if my knee heals soon, I am pretty good with tools of all flavors, so I may be up for some time donation.

hey Bill - November 15th, 4ish pm

you don't have to specify a service date, either. I auctioned off 1/2 day of labor last year and Jenn made me pay up in the spring by helping her break sod on a new flower bed.

Can we start a thread to "Pimp our Dontations"?? You know, so people can get an idea of some of the items up for bid, and plan to bring the appropriate amounts of ca$h. :D What area would be the most appropriate to post such a thread?

Aimee

put 'em right here - best spot

and YEAH - because the NL can be out in time to give sufficient notification, we're starting at 4pm.

board meeting at 3pm. show up at 4. bidding starts at 4:30....

Has anyone given thought to contacting some of the various mom/pop type pet shops and other shops for donations? How about asking some of the vets for a donation of a checkup or something similar? On top of that, have the auction so that people other than the club knew about it, and could attend. If it is only a few club members attending, not much cash is going to be generated.
Just a thought

Aimee

hey Bill - both of those plans are already either in the works or done. thanks for the suggestions, though.

this is the first year where we've really felt like we're starting to burst out of our venue. I suspect by next year we'll be ready to take our auction public; we're close now.

oh, and hey - I've picked up a couple vet exams (still waiting from two more vets; Dr Maas is usually good for a couple fecals). I've picked up pet store donations. I have a gift certificate for 2 at the PacSci center....I'm working my contacts for a couple bigger things and some more smaller things, but I wont' spill till I have absolute confirmation :D

I'm also bringing some littler stuff - a couple donated items for a lady here at the Hutch, a nice wood hand-quilting frame...

As always, I'll be posting on CL to let people know about the upcoming meeting and auction. That's part of the reason our membership has grown as much as it has in the last year....

For all of you bearded dragon owners out there (or really, any spoiled creature needing a nice, sizable enclosure), I will be donating this pimped-out cage. It was donated to the Society a few months back. I stripped it down, sanded the heck out of it and stained/painted/sealed it. My husband re-wired it so that it will *not* burn your house down (it was kinda scary before), with a 2-switch panel on the left hand side. I also re-painted and re-sealed the background. The cage floor had the old, sandy silicone pulled out, and new, non-sandy silicone applied along all of the edges. This has been housing Sprockett for a few months until I could find something more along the lines of what I was looking for...which I just recently found, thanks to Geoff.

What you will get: the cage (w/ electrical) and the background. The rest of the accessories are moving with Sprockett into his new enclosure. With the right climbing accessories, your beardie can bask away up on the "rock" ledge. There are 2 sockets on the ceiling, one for a UVB bulb, and one for a CHE. The floor is melamine underneath my slate tile. The front and the sides are acrylic, which are kinda scratched up along the bottom from having *sand* up against it, as well as from normal beardie wear and tear, but the damage is strictly cosmetic. I can provide exact dimensions, but Sprockett, being an average sized adult beardie, provides a pretty good sense of scale in the picture. This really is a kick-butt cage, it just doesn't "go" with the rest of the living room. I'm hoping the Society can rake in a nice chunk of change for it!

Edit to add: at first, Sprockett was *not* pleased with his new home. If he wasn't going to go for it, it was going to become the new home for my JCP, who I'm sure would have loved the space and the background. So this isn't just for beardies! The sky is the limit! :D

I don't know how to get them to y'all, but I will donate my glass and screen cage, and a 4X2X2 wooden enclosure that would be great for a beardie or other heat loving lizard. If the club is interested, LMK and we can work out the details.

No limit on windows, we have a 17' ladder, but will rent up to a 30' ladder. If you have windows that are higher than that, we'll figure something out, as the renting of a cherry picker can be quite pricey...

I would have to vote on that myself!
I was thinking more like 50 cockroaches in a little carrier tub. But since I have to get more water crystals myself, I could bring some of that too. I've just been feeding them oatmeal.

Izzy, I shattered my mug this week. Slipped right out of my hand and bashed just wrong on the bottom of the sink as I was hand washing it. I was so pissed I cried. I need to go make a new one soon. ..

ooh... a Tokay mug would be cool....

Julia

The snake pendant and spider necklace came in, so I'll be bringing those for sure.

After having another look around the house, I also decided to donate two of my collectable Enchantica dragons. The White Dragon (1993 collector's club membership piece) & Vyzauga (the double headed dragon).

Dang it, I can feel all the money draining out of the bank account already!!

I'll be bringing a few items, plus donating a few certificates for feeders and one for a service to be done next year. Need a vivarium planted? Help picking plants for your garden? A nice dinner to be cooked (I can throw in a lesson on how to make the meal, too)?

I picked up a new, big Crock Pot with locking lid today so I can bring a big pot of chicken noodle soup for all of you getting over the flu! Just please don't give it to me. :)

Would anyone be interested a certificate to help you and your family put together a Budget Plan?

I know alot of people are struggling in this economy and I'm really good with money / numbers. I actually have my budget all planned out for next 5+ years. I've had to tweak it many times due to Donny not working, but during the 17 months he was unemployed, I kept food on the table, a roof over our head and kept my animals fed.

If it's something someone would be interested in, I'll work up a Certificate to bid on. LMK

Yes, you heard correctly. Retired from the local school district in July 2009 after nearly 34 years. Now is the time for life near the beach and the Pacific Ocean. Two blocks down the hill from me I have a distant view of the Pacific. I can get to the sand within four blocks. At night I can hear the waves from my place. I'm hoping for a long retirement there.

I have seen stellar jays in my yard and an occasional raccoon trapsing through with two babies.
