I saw it when she posted, and thought about it. I'm up to 3 rosies, and I'd rather not pay for any more. Sure, I'll take any tarantula off anyone's hands for no fee (they don't take up much shelf space and they are easy to keep, especially when I'm already feeding over 100 of them and breed my own food), but I'd rather save my money for species that are less common. Like, for example, the 5 Ts that just went up on craigslist tonight, in Kent. I already called the guy and am going to pick them up in the morning. :D

I'm a craigslist junkie!

I'm still mad I was beaten to the huge cage last week. That would have been *perfect* for my argus.

Aw, heck, I'll send her an email and offer to pick it up, if she's still got it. I'm going to be up to my ears in rosies someday. Maybe then they'll shut down Chilean exports and they'll be worth breeding. They live for a *long* time.

I did take the plunge... they set the T's right by the snakes at my pet store (I think they did this on purpose just to hook me) and I started getting more and more curious over the months (note this was a long progression). Finally my curiosity overcame me and I asked to see one... I stayed my distance yet it stirred my curiosity even more. After researching them and learning stuff about them I have discovered them to be incredibly interesting little critters. So next time I was in the pet store I asked to hold a rose hair and was nervous... maybe even a little scared. I decided to think on it for a night (I don't want to get a pet on a whim and regret it... it's just not fair to the animal) and obviously decided to go back and get it.
Anyways long story short I'm simply amazed at how much of a great pet this is. If you can get over the arachnophobia that most of us seem to have to some degree. Mine has amazed me in many ways already... I assumed she would be very secretive and be hiding most of the time, I figured that if and when she came out of her hide it would be when I was asleep or just not paying attention. It seems she's out crawling around or just sitting out in the open a lot of the time, even when she's in her hide I can see her. Plus she doesn’t run from me like I assumed she would.
Sorry this has became quite the long post, any I amazed at how cool I think T's are when I used to get the willies from them, sometimes a little knowledge is all it takes.

Wow. I picked up the rose hair today, and I have to say that it's the most pathetic looking T I've ever seen. I'll have to take some pics. The poor thing's 4 rear legs are mostly hairless and regenerated and so short, while the front legs are normal hair and length. The abdomen is bald. To top it all off, it's an adult male!

I wish the little guy could tell me his story. Oh well, he'll live out his days in the land of wine and roses. Well, fresh water and cockroaches. :)

Don't you have a female? It seems a shame not to breed him, since his days are numbered anyway.

There are too many rose hairs. They are imported as adults for like $2 each, so how can you get people to buy spiderlings? Sure, there are a few who will buy on principle, but eggsacs can have hundreds of babies. People who breed them usually end up giving them away. Until they shut down exportation from Chile, there is no good reason, IMO, to breed them. And anyway, this guy does not strike me as good genetic material. :)

Bummer.

Eh, I'm still doing my part. I've got one eggsac (C. guangxiensis) already opened with nymphs, another one at the bottom of a cobalt blue burrow (how the heck am I supposed to get it out of there???) and probably another one in a second cobalt cage. Plus a third bred cobalt and a bred H. longipes. I haven't let the male greenbottle loose with the female yet because I can't tell if she's going to molt or not. So, I've got plenty of breeding projects cooking that *will* be good for the industry.

Wow! What fun. I wish I wasn't so crunched for time and space. I was really sorry to get rid of my tarantulas (though happy, of course, that they went to such a good home!) I think my favorite was the White-knee. She was so huge, and so gorgeous, and she was actually pretty active. She looked so great in that little planted terrarium. Oh, well.... someday I'll get tarantulas again.

She's a fabulous girl. Always sits out in the open, just waiting for the next juicy roach to come along. :-) The red knee molted last month, she's a girl. I sexed the molt to make sure. She's gorgeous, too. I set them up in nice glass tanks. They're such wonderful display animals!

I still need to set my new Ts up in nice glass tanks. It's going to be a joy to move the red slate ornamental and ornamental baboon. (That's sarcasm, btw.) I've got a good, solid breeding group coming together. I don't want anything on the scale of what Alex has, just one or two females of each species, with juvies to grow up into breeding males, selling or trading extra females. Oh yeah, I'm going by NWZ this afternoon to pick up my share of the P. fasciata spiderlings, and I heard he's got some new B. boehmi slings, too. Time for a shopping trip!
