hey guys - I know we all have pretty strong feelings about various issues

please, please remember that using inappropriate language is NOT ok here. typing it and letting the asterisks show, or typing similar words, is really not cool. please bear in mind that PNWHS is trying to serve as a voice in the greater community to promote reptiles and amphibians through a variety of means, and we need to be positive, professional, and family-friendly.

thank you!

Aimee

This is often referred to as "masked vulgarity" .....a great name for a villain, but not a good thing for the forum. Thanks for the reminder, Aimee!

Can we have a secret forum for the inner circle where we can sound off occasionally? Juuuuuuuusssssssst kidding. =)

P.S. If any of these types of messages are ever indirectly or subliminally directed at me ... please just PM me and tell me (in whatever words you want to use) what I am doing ... sometimes I forget what's political and/or well mannered. As Busta Rhymes said, "It ain't easy bein greasy in a world full of cleanliness and all that other madness."

actually, we should. some forums do that, and I support the practice. maybe we'll bring it up at the next board meeting

Can I get a third on the motion here? :D

Actually I am on another forum that has a secret portion of the forum for only certain people given the privilege of viewing it by the admin. It shouldn't be very hard or take much time to put it in.

I'm certain it's possible here, Justin. the Board already has it's own little subforum and it would be similar.

we'll see. maybe a place for 18+ pnhs members, with a disclaimer that if they offend easily they shouldn't jump in at all?

Yep, that's a good thing to do! All of the boards I'm a member of have a place like that...one of them even requires you to request permission to access the area along with said disclaimer.

That would be great like on one board they call it "HELL" and you have to apply.:D

Not Safe For Sensitive Ears (or eyes) ...

But yeah a full disclaimer ... oh well not sure but you could probably have them click a "agree to enter" but this site only let's them in based on their registered age for when they signed up. I suppose if this is changeable the purpose is defeated although I guess it kinda covers your ... I'll save the rest for the new forum section. ;)

I third, fourth, or whatever number we're up to that motion! I like the idea of a grown up forum for letting our hair down on random stuffs.

It would only work if mom or dad were the ones not on the registration. I just don't get why everyone wants to be able to curse on a forum that is at least partially geared towards kids. There are so many other forums out there. I've had several people tell me they don't let there kids on other forums for just that reason. Then I explain how we have monitors and are education based and they say they'll check us out. I guess I'm just a little older because I know 20yrs ago I wouldn't have even thought about the kids. Mine is in Boot Camp and when he came back for Christmas my ears were on fire.

It's not so much the cursing, but the subject matter I think. Maybe we heard a hilarious joke that would otherwise be inappropriate for this family-centered forum. I personally don't have any problem censoring my language on a forum, but as this forum is an extension of my social life (real life friends are on here) I wouldn't mind a place to discuss random stuff candidly without worry of offending anyone. Of course if just absolutely HAVE to share that joke about the guy with the thing I can always just call everyone and tell it to them but that gets awkward after a while and I need to keep changing my phone number so people can't avoid me via caller ID.

Yeah I don't ever really PLAN to curse. It's not like something that I attempt to do when structuring my sentences in my mind. It however slips. And sometimes it's appropriate. I don't think the whole purpose of having that "grown up" part of the forum is so that we can get into it and start cursing up a storm. It's like when Howard Stern went to Sirius ... not because he just wanted to sit there and curse, but because he could do the show HE wants to do and not worry about the FCC fining him all day long.

And I just wanted to be
