a Friend of mine has due to an family emergency to rehome her collection of breeding Red Tail Boas. She has 4 including 2 that are pregnant. she is rehoming all of them. $200 a piece or $1500 for all of them and a HUGE custom cage. If I had that $1500 I'd be on faster than Flies on poo but Ya Know Rent and all I can only afford about $400 at the moment.

So let me get this straight. She has 4 large snakes all housed in a cage that is not big enough, 2 of them pregnant, and all eat live food?!?!?!? Thanks, but no thanks.

ahhh, RTB's are bottomless pits for food (at least mine is)... they'll eat anything you put in front of them, which shouldn't make them too hard to switch over, even as big as they are. I can't say I like all 4 of them in one house tho, that's unfortunate...

I'm sorry to hear that your friend is having problems. It's tough to rehome Red Tails. There are so many of them out there needing homes. I know we get quite a few calls and we don't have enough foster homes for them.

I hope everything works out for your friend.

Does your friend have a due date for her pregnant snake? She will have better luck rehoming the babies...

I wish her luck, I don't think she'll move them at that price though. Sorry to hear she's having problems.

that cage is only suitable for one ten foot snake maybe two boas if there was more places to hide in the cage

I agree with you Josh, But I cannot control what someone does, Heck I keep my Burm in an 85 gallon at the time, Just so she has something to grow into. I'll move her to a 6 foot cage once she reaches 3 feet and after 8' I will build a Huge and I mean HUGE custom cage for her to comfortably live in the rest of her life. I have the space trust me, My room is nothing but terrariums, rats and a Bed and tv. I have 8 feet of unused wall space at the moment :D

Im Hoping to get at least 2 more Red Tails and One Reticulated, I know a guy that has a Literally No bullcrap 24 foot Retic that Lives in a Customized 5 Wheel! Its an AWESOME sight to behold cept for the fact that the snake takes 3 people to control, but still its awesome. Im willing to go to these extremes for My Burmese and any Retics I may acquire. It sounds crazy but If you are going to own Large snakes You MUST MUST MUST be willing and able to incur the expenses and hassles that come with them.

But fortunately for me Red Tails can be housed in smaller enclosures, compared to a standard Burmese proper habitat a 6x3x4 Cage is small :D

Thats just my 2 centz

@ This house hold we don’t keep any snakes together not saying it’s not a good or bad thing it’s just our policy. Hubby like it this way - our snakes are healthy and he knows the good and bad when it happens and no questioning who did it because we know only one snake in the habitat.

HOWEVER I would like to say 2 male and 2 female in that cage doesn’t seem safe or happy for the snake. It is the kind of picture I see and feel sad.

I realize people get these small snakes and don’t realize the amount of time and work it goes in to clean it out, daily upkeep and care. Maybe u really do need to come see the burm and clean its dookie out. Once u will realize an hour later it’s a lot of snake.
You sound like u have your mind made up but your young (22 is young to me) and your life will change and grown and so will those beautiful snakes - before u get to many consider it long and hard ...Retic are HUGE their care is much greater …the money to feed ... the time to feed and upkeep .... And if u have numerous snakes it is allot of time. There is 3 of us in the house hold and we spend many long hours cleaning and feeding ... not counting the loving & holding time ...so at 22 consider not going out …no time for g/f or u better find one that will help u clean dookie as my son has...
I don’t want to seem cruel or mean in anyway but we just adopted a snake from a very loving sweet family who intended to keep this huge snake her whole life BUT life provides changes and situations so allot of times these snake have to be rehomed just because the long term care wasn’t thought up... so please let reality hit before u buy to many.

Very Good advice, I am fully aware of my Desired undertaking. That to adopt a Rectic Or a Burm is HUGE responsibility. All the space and time needed, the feeding. etc And Rectics can be touchy, having to worry that a your 18 footer is gonna wrap you up. And yes :Sigh: Many ppl see my age as a liability but I must say this. For my age I have been alot of places seen alot of things now that does not make me qualified to own large snakes, But I am a firm believer in starting what hyou finish, these are not what Craigslist People seem to think are "Disposable Animals" I've made my comitment and I stand to it. My Burmese is not gonna end up on CL like I seen that some have. Its in my mind anyways simply an understanding of really being able to do something and see it through to the end, no matter what.

Ohh and yes I'd Love to see the Burm:D
